Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT Tops Consumer Reports’ List of Best Safety Performance Vehicles

You may not typically think of a sports car coming in at the top of safety ratings lists, but when it comes to quick braking, quick response time, and emergency handling, sportier vehicles rank higher in these tests, while large trucks and SUVs tend to be slower to respond and more difficult to maneuver. It’s not fancy science, just the practical truth!

Consumer Reports performs a series of crucial emergency driving tests including on-limit handling, avoidance maneuver, and a series of brake tests to determine how controllable, secure, and forgiving (or not) the car is.  In these tests, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT ranked number one in stopping distance and ranked in the top ten for the avoidance maneuver.

The Corvette Stingray 3LT was able to come to a complete stop from 60 mph in an impressive 107 feet, and was able to complete the maneuver test at 57.5 mph. According to autos.yahoo.com, “The avoidance maneuver is a ‘path-following test’ in which the driver pilots the car down a lane marked off by traffic cones with a quick left-right-left sequence. That simulates swerving to avoid an obstacle in the road, then returning to the original lane to avoid oncoming traffic. The car threads through the course, without throttle or brakes, at ever-higher speeds until it can’t get through without hitting any cones.” Because of the way that test is performed, the higher the speed, the better the handling and the higher the ranking.

Chevrolet Wins Again at NAIAS for Cars.com Best of 2014

Best of 2014: Chevy ImpalaChevrolet swept the awards at yet another ceremony at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. This time, the 2014 Impala and Silverado won for Cars.com’s Best Car and Best Truck of 2014.

Best of 2014: Chevy SilveradoDuring the show’s first week, the 2014 Corvette Stingray and Silverado were named North American Car and Truck of the Year. All of these accolades go to show that Chevrolet is simply the Best of 2014.

Best of 2014: Chevy Impala“Winning these awards is a huge honor for Chevrolet,” said Alan Batey, GM’s senior vice president of Global Chevrolet. “The fact that the top vehicle in both these categories is a Chevrolet speaks volumes about the strength of our entire portfolio.”

Cars.com goes through a lengthy testing process to find the best new and significantly updated vehicles in the industry and to determine which car and truck stand out among the rest in their ultra-competitive fields.

“Winning just one of these awards for an automaker is pretty tough, given the high number of quality cars and trucks that debut each year,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief. “For Chevrolet to grab both awards shows the depth of their ability to build desirable vehicles.”

We at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC know that Chevy will keep the great vehicles and the awards coming. The New Year is already shaping up to be a great one for General Motors and the Chevrolet brand with all of the Best of 2014 honors!

Chevrolet Sweeps Competition to Win Autoweek’s Best of the Best

2014 Corvette Stingray Wins Autoweek's Best of the Best Car AwardWhen Autoweek conducted their annual search for the Best of the Best Car and Truck for 2014, they came to Chevrolet; and in an unprecedented move, Chevrolet swept the awards for both categories of Autoweek‘s Best of the Best titles.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray received the Best of the Best/Car award, and the 2014 Chevy Silverado took home the title of Best of the Best/Truck.

2014 Silverado Named Autoweek's Best of the Best TruckAutoweek defines a car as any sedan, coupe, hatchback, convertible, or wagon. The truck category includes pickups, crossovers, SUVs, and minivans.

Autoweek thoroughly tested hundreds of new and significantly modified vehicles to find the best in performance, economy, style, and reliability among other categories.

The staff drove the vehicles around the track, through the streets of Detroit, and even on vacation. The Autoweek staff on the West Coast tested the same vehicles on the terrain on their side of the country and added their experiences to the evaluation.

From AutoWeek’s write up on the Stingray: “The Chevy got high marks for its flexible engine—‘monster torque,’ wrote one staffer—great brakes, and rock-solid chassis and handling. ‘There’s an eagerness here that a Corvette’s never had,’ said one tester. Other logbook comments included ‘amazing agility,’ ‘the engine is wonderful’ and ‘jeez-o-pete, this car has NO body roll.’”

When all was said in done, Autoweek declared Chevrolet’s 2014 Corvette Stingray and 2014 Silverado “the Best of the Best, pure and simple.”

Here at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC, we are proud to officially offer you Autoweek‘s Best of the Best, nationally recognized vehicles known for excellence and superior performance.
