GM Renaissance Center uses Composting to Help the Environment

Work with GM to go green with composting in the GM Renaissance Center!

General Motors not only makes the effort to go green when it comes to its vehicles—it has also brought the green philosophy home. The GM Global Headquarters, which already strives to send no waste to landfills, has recently announced that the building that houses many of the complex’s restaurants, the GM Renaissance Center, has taken the American carmaker’s green initiative one step further by composting any leftover food scraps in urban farms throughout Detroit.

This new movement towards composting came about through a partnership with a local startup, Detroit Dirt, which collects coffee grounds and fruit and vegetable pieces to mix with herbivore manure. It all began when Andiamo Riverfront, a 280-seat Italian restaurant within the Renaissance Center, began composting. Since April, this restaurant alone has already generated 12,000 pounds of food scraps. Along with Andiamo Riverfront, other restaurants that are now composting include Joe Muer Seafood, Presto Gourmet Deli, Coach Insignia, Coffee Beanery, and Potbelly Sandwich Works.

While we might not have the gardens to help you compost, we here at Hutch Chevrolet still have plenty of eco-friendly vehicle options to choose from. Make sure you stop in to our dealership today to go on a test drive!

Chevy Suburban and Tahoe Outselling Expectations

Chevy Suburban and Tahoe Reign Supreme in SUV SegmentNo brand has ever dominated a segment the way that Chevrolet continues to dominate the competition when it comes to SUVs. In fact, the Bow Tie brand actually invented the segment with the original Suburban back in 1935, and Chevy’s never relinquished control of its own creation. Even now, in the middle of 2014, Chevy’s two full-size SUVs continue to govern the SUV segment. Sales of both the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe are booming to such a degree that production is having a hard time keeping up, easily outstripping expectations for both vehicles.

“Chevrolet’s all-new Suburban and Tahoe offer improved quality, advanced technology and increased fuel efficiency, yet they retain their impressive towing capabilities,” Karl Brauer, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book, said, explaining the sales numbers for the SUVs. Both vehicles saw sales increases of more than 100% over April 2013, helping Chevy confidently claim basically half of the segment market.

Chevrolet executives are excited about the two vehicles too. “The Tahoe and Suburban are the leading vehicles in the segment, and some of the best Chevrolet has ever built,” Brian Sweeney, Chevy’s U.S. vice president, said. “The demand for these refined, functional, and technology-driven models is proof that consumers agree, as well.”

Come be part of the proof by checking out the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe right here at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC.

2014 Acadia Earned one of Many GMC Awards at NYIASAt auto shows, it’s usually the manufacturers who are giving things out to industry experts and enthusiasts—releasing new information, unveiling exciting concept vehicles, and even displaying new production models. However, this year at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), it’s the experts who are giving back to the manufacturers—especially GMC. The auto giant received three different awards at NYIAS in the Big Apple on April 16, each of them from different and authoritative voices in the auto industry.

The GMC brand itself was named “Most Refined Brand” in the 2014 Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards. As for specific vehicles, the 2015 GMC Canyon earned the distinction of’s 2014 Must Test Drive vehicle, while the 2014 Acadia was named “2014 Most Popular among Large Crossover SUVs” by

Chevy Malibu Nabs Top Safety Pick+ Rating for 2014

2014 Chevy Malibu Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating from IIHSMaybe Chevrolet should completely redesign the Malibu more often. Although, now that it’s this good—this great, really—we at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC are hoping it sticks around for a good long while. Not only is the sedan fully redesigned for efficiency, comfort, and performance, it now boasts a stellar and impeccable safety record as well. The Malibu has been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS for 2014, earning the highest possible honor from the authoritative institution.

To earn the distinction, the 2014 Malibu had to receive “Good” ratings on at least four out of five crash tests, while earning no less than an “Acceptable” rating on the fifth. This proved all too easy for the Malibu, which took “Good” ratings all across the board. Plus, to receive the “+” part of the rating, the Malibu received a “Basic” rating on its Forward Collision Alert system.

“We are very pleased that the IIHS has recognized the safety of the Malibu with this prestigious rating,” said Gay Kent, general director of GM Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “Customer safety is our guiding compass; this serves as a testament to that.”

If you take a look at your internal compass right now, you’ll probably see that it’s guiding you to us here at Hutch, where we’ll set you up for a test drive in the super cool, super safe, 2014 Chevrolet Malibu.

Chevrolet and Marvel Launch Cross-Marketing Campaign for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Chevrolet and Marvel Team Up in Cross-Marketing Campaign for Captain America: The Winter SoldierIf someone asked us here at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC which we were more excited about, the new lineup of Chevrolet vehicles or the next installment in the Marvel movie universe, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” we’d obviously answer: “Both!” And that’s not cheating—because Chevrolet and Marvel recently launched a cross-marketing campaign leading up to the movie, featuring many Chevrolet vehicles in action.

Chevrolet chose Marvel and Captain America specifically for several reasons. One: the enduring global popularity of the Marvel movies grants the Chevy brand priceless exposure, increasing customer awareness worldwide. Plus, the action-adventure aspect of “The Winter Soldier” allows you to see the Chevy vehicles in rip-roaring chase and action sequences.

“Core brand values such as innovation, young-at-heart, heroism, can-do-spirit, and authenticity intersect very well with Captain America’s values,” explained Steve Tihanyi, general director of marketing alliances and branded entertainment for GM.

You can see the newest Corvette tearing up the screen in “The Winter Soldier” starting April 4, where it is the featured car of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character in the film. For now, though, check out this adorable video below of kids playing parts from the movie, which doubles as the first installment of the cross-marketing campaign.

Corvettes Damaged in Corvette Museum Sinkhole to be Restored

Help Restore Landmark after Corvette Museum Sinkhole by DonatingSinkholes… If you hadn’t already heard of the natural and devastating phenomenons before, surely you’ve heard of them now after the bizarre Corvette Museum sinkhole incident that transpired about a week ago.

Unfortunately for the National Corvette Museum, its Sky Dome showroom was the reluctant victim of a hungry sinkhole in the early morning hours of February 12. As a result, eight prized and historical Corvettes were somewhat devoured, succumbing to the 30-ft. depths of the sinkhole, and all were damaged to some extent.

The footage is actually hard to watch for those of us that love Corvettes as much as any red-blooded, meat-eating, car-loving American should.

Do not despair, Corvette-lovers. It’s not all doom and gloom for the museum because General Motors has pledged to restore the damaged vehicles, some of which include the one-millionth Corvette ever produced and a stunning 1962 convertible. GM Design’s Mechanical Assembly in Warren, MI will bring the beauties back to their original glory.

If you’re particularly moved by the Corvette Museum sinkhole tragedy, you can donate to the museum by following this link. Consider helping them recover in time for the 20th anniversary celebration this summer.

GMC Canyon Set to Debut at 2014 Detroit Auto Show

We Can't Wait for the GMC Canyon DebutIn November, we got to meet the new Chevrolet Colorado at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Now it’s time for the GMC Canyon to make its debut. In a couple of weeks at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Canyon will get its turn in the spotlight.

General Motors has promised that while the Canyon may share the same platform as the Colorado, it will be stylistically unique. The Canyon is also expected to be a bit more sophisticated than the Colorado, offering a few more creature comforts. Newsday believes that the Canyon and Colorado’s success could change the direction of the pickup truck market as we know it.

Under the hood, it will offer the same powertrain options as the Colorado. At initial launch, buyers will have the choice of two engines: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 193 horsepower or a 3.6-liter V6 with 302 horsepower. After its launch, GM will add a third option, a 2.8-liter turbo diesel. All engines will be matched with a six-speed automatic; though, the smallest will have a six-speed manual as an option.

What are you hoping to see in the new 2015 GMC Canyon?

General Motors Uses 3-D Scanning to Dissect Competitors’ Vehicles

3-D Scanning Tech Allows GM To Size up CompetitionHere at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC, we are able to provide you with the best vehicles because General Motors is committed to supplying their customers with nothing less. Because of that commitment, if our vehicles don’t have the industry’s all-new or segment-first technologies, GM uses 3-D scanning to asses competitors’ vehicles that do.

3-D scanning capabilities allow GM to identify the amazing and the faulty when it comes to the latest automotive technologies.

“3-D scanning is a time-efficient and cost-effective way of keeping up with rapid advancements being made all over the industry,” said Larry Pecar, GM’s senior supervisor for Competitive Benchmarking. “The technology also allows us to gain a better understanding of the reasons for other automakers’ recalls so that we are better able to avoid making the same mistakes.”

During the process, light scanners create 3-D images, which become reverse-engineered computer models to be compared with GM’s vehicles. GM’s own models are also scanned to ensure quality parts and manufacturing processes are consistently used.

Because of 3-D scanning, General Motors is able to reduce production costs and improve the quality of its forthcoming models.

Though 3-D scanning sounds like a lot of tedious work, we’re glad GM takes the time to do it. The resulting vehicles are absolutely worth it. Wouldn’t you agree?

Chevrolet Unveils Cheyenne Concept at SEMA

Chevy SilveradoThe SEMA Show is a yearly chance for automakers and aftermarket specialists to flex their muscles and show just how much power they can pack into a single vehicle. This year is no exception, especially for Chevrolet: the GM brand brought its brand-new Chevy Silverado Cheyenne Concept truck to SEMA 2013.  One thing that may ultimately separate this truck from the rest of the pack: car buyers might just get the chance to own one.

The Cheyenne concept is a “lightweighted” truck built off the all-new 2014 Silverado platform.  To cut weight for the Cheyenne, pieces like the spare tire, trailer hitch, and interior center console were removed, knocking a total of about 200 pounds of the truck’s weight.

“Lightweighting is a time-honored method of making the most of a vehicle’s performance,” said Chris Perry, vice president of marketing for Chevrolet, in an official statement. “The Cheyenne complements its lower weight with more horsepower.” In fact, the Cheyenne, partly due to the weight loss and also partly due to a 6.2L V8 engine, produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque.

Chevrolet designed the Cheynne concept to explore “the performance possibilities of the all-new Silverado, which is already built on a mass-efficient layout and delivers a greater balance of performance and efficiency than any other full-size truck in Chevrolet’s history,” said Perry.  He then hinted that the Cheyenne could be a window to the future: “It is only a concept right now, but we are continually exploring new ways to give Silverado customers more.”

Giving some credence to those words is AutoBlog, who reports that there very well may be a production version of the Silverado Cheyenne concept in the future.

Looking to the future is great and all, but what if you need a truck right now? Well, that’s perfect, because here at Hutch Chevrolet we’ve got plenty of Silverados for you!  Stop in and test drive one today.
