The 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray engine was named to the Ward’s 10 Best Engines List of 2015!

The Chevy Corvette Stingray has always been well-known for its incredible performance. That’s why for the second year in a row the LT1 Small Block 6.2-liter V8, which powers the Stingray, was named to the Ward’s 10 Best Engines List of 2015.

After an intense set of tests, WardsAuto was able to name the Stingray engine one of the best in the world among 37 other engines from 12 competing manufacturers. According to Chevy, the judges based their decisions on power, fuel efficiency, new technology, and refinement.

“Having the WardsAuto experts choose the LT1 as one of the best in the industry two years in a row is proof of what this Powertrain team can deliver–uncompromised performance, durability and efficiency that helps make the Stingray one of the best sports cars in the world today,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president of GM Global Powertrain.

The 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray engine boasts an astonishing 460 hp, and when paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission gets 29 mpg highway. With a 3.8 second zero-to-60 rate and efficiency that’s easy on the wallet, it’s easy to see why the LT1 was one of the favorites.

2015 Corvette Z06 Fuel Economy Numbers are Unbelievable

The fuel economy of the 2015 Corvette Z06 are numbers you will not believe!

The fuel economy of the 2015 Corvette Z06 are numbers you will not believe!

Chevrolet has just released the 2015 Corvette Z06 fuel economy numbers – and it might be one of the most fuel efficient performance cars we’ve ever seen. We’ve all been waiting to hear just how much gas the Z06 will be sipping, especially since this is the first time it will offer a supercharged engine.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 performance coupe, with its eight-speed automatic transmission, delivers 13 mpg driving in city and 23 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, GM says the Corvette Z06 is the most powerful production car ever produced by General Motors, and one of the most powerful production cars available in the US. The new Z06 puts out 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

“It is one of the most fuel-efficient 650 hp cars you can get,” Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran told Edmunds.

Buyers who are opting to skip the supercharged engine can expect the standard 6.2-liter V8 engine and seven-speed manual transmission to deliver an impressive 17 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway.

Sinkhole Corvette is Restored – At Long Last

A sinkhole took eight Corvettes at the National Corvette Museum, but one sinkhole Corvette is restored!

A sinkhole took eight Corvettes at the National Corvette Museum, but one sinkhole Corvette is restored!

Nine months ago, at the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky, a giant sinkhole opened up beneath the museum’s Skydome showroom and swallowed eight valuable Corvettes. It then took months to retrieve all the cars from the hole and now the news breaks that the first sinkhole Corvette is restored.

By far, the least-damaged of the eight Corvettes was the 2009 Corvette ZR1 “Blue Devil.” It suffered a broken windshield, dented doors and fenders, cracked oil lines, and bent rear control arms. However, it was still able to drive out of the museum on its own power.

Recently, the fully restored Blue Devil was on display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. It showed off its stunning blue paint job along with its powerful 638-horsepower V-8 engine. When the Blue Devil was new, it was the most powerful production Corvette ever built. After SEMA, the Blue Devil will return to the museum.

The Blue Devil was expertly restored by General Motors and is one of only three sinkhole Corvettes that will actually be restored. The remaining five were deemed beyond repair and will remain on display at the museum in their sinkhole-damaged state.

With the National Corvette Museum being right here in Kentucky with us, it would be a great experience to see all of these Corvettes, both restored and damaged.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT Tops Consumer Reports’ List of Best Safety Performance Vehicles

You may not typically think of a sports car coming in at the top of safety ratings lists, but when it comes to quick braking, quick response time, and emergency handling, sportier vehicles rank higher in these tests, while large trucks and SUVs tend to be slower to respond and more difficult to maneuver. It’s not fancy science, just the practical truth!

Consumer Reports performs a series of crucial emergency driving tests including on-limit handling, avoidance maneuver, and a series of brake tests to determine how controllable, secure, and forgiving (or not) the car is.  In these tests, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT ranked number one in stopping distance and ranked in the top ten for the avoidance maneuver.

The Corvette Stingray 3LT was able to come to a complete stop from 60 mph in an impressive 107 feet, and was able to complete the maneuver test at 57.5 mph. According to autos.yahoo.com, “The avoidance maneuver is a ‘path-following test’ in which the driver pilots the car down a lane marked off by traffic cones with a quick left-right-left sequence. That simulates swerving to avoid an obstacle in the road, then returning to the original lane to avoid oncoming traffic. The car threads through the course, without throttle or brakes, at ever-higher speeds until it can’t get through without hitting any cones.” Because of the way that test is performed, the higher the speed, the better the handling and the higher the ranking.

1967 L88 Corvette Sells for Record Breaking Price

If you were to ask a group of people what the most iconic car is the vast majority of them would more than likely reply with “The Corvette.” As such, it’s no surprise to us that classic Corvettes sell for quite a bit of money. The latest example of this could be a 1967 L88 Corvette Convertible that sold for a record breaking price of $3.2 Million, which is the most a Corvette has ever sold for, at the Mecum Dallas auction.

Now, if you’re sitting there saying “That’s chump change,” chances are you need to wake up, because you’re dreaming. And while we all know that is a lot of money, it’s not for your average Corvette. The L88 option code basically means that this particular Corvette is a production racecar. The 1967 L88 Corvette is given a race motor; beefed up suspension, brakes, and transmission; a positraction differential; and a stinger hood scoop. To top it all off, only 20 L88’s were produced in 1967.

Check out the auction video below to see how the bidding war went down! Sadly Hutch Chevrolet wasn’t able to acquire this unique piece of history.

Charles Mallon’s Corvette Collection Earns World Record

Toy CorvetteCollecting toy cars isn’t exactly a hobby that would set a 14-year-old boy apart from other adolescent boys. The same can be said of a middle-aged man, collecting car memorabilia for his basement “man cave”—nothing too extraordinary.

The nature of Charles Mallon’s collection isn’t what shocks us; it’s the magnitude.

According to Chevrolet’s feature on Mallon, the 54-year-old Chevy fanatic owns 2,013 toy-sized Corvettes. He also has an actual life-sized 2005 LeMans blue C6 in his garage. But the miniature renditions are his claim to fame, and his vast collection has earned him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for maintaining the “Largest Collection of Chevrolet Memorabilia.”

Chevy recently interviewed Mallon who explained that his love for the Corvette, in particular, started growing at a very young age. By the time he was 14, he was seriously dedicated to his collection. Now, 40 years later, he’s gained world-wide acknowledgment for his life-long passion.

When Mallon decided to go for record-holding recognition, part of the process involved setting up his entire collection on the gym floor of a local Pennsylvania high school and submitting a formal application to Guinness. In Chevy’s article, Mallon attributed his willingness to go through the tedious process—all part of an effort “to validate [his] insanity.”

If Mallon is insane, it’s in the best possible way. We love hearing about fans that love the legendary Bowtie brand as much as we do here at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC!

2014 Corvette Stingray Performance Numbers

2014 Corvette StingrayThe performance numbers for the 2014 Corvette Stingray equipped with the Z51 Performance Package have been released, and they are quite impressive.

While we have yet to know the performance numbers for the Stingray sans-Performance Package, we do now know what the Z51 Performance Package equipped Corvette Stingray is capable of. If you recall, a while back Chevrolet promised that Corvettes equipped with the Z51 Package would hit 60 mph in under four seconds and be capable of corning with more than 1g. Well, we now know that they have delivered on that promise. The 2014 Corvette Stingray will reach 0-60 in a mere 3.8 seconds, and will pull 1.03g while cornering.

Beyond these known figures, Chevrolet is also promising quarter miles times of 12 seconds and taking only 107 feet to stop from 60.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is expected to arrive here at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC later this year.

Indy 500 is Led by the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

2014 Corvette Stingray Indy 500The brand new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be leading the pack of racecars as it sets the pace for the 97th Indianapolis 500. The sporty design and Chevrolet’s long history with the famed race help make it the perfect pace car.

The new 2014 Corvette Stingray will lead the way without any major modifications to the design. The track-mandated safety features were added to the vehicle, and the Stingray iss ready to run. The 6.2L LT1 engine is more than enough to help the Corvette handle the track. The Stingray generates 450 horsepower with its advanced direct fuel injection and its Active Fuel Management.

This is not Chevrolet’s first time at the racetrack. In fact, this will be the 24th time a Chevrolet vehicle will be the pace car and the 12th time a Corvette will lead the way. Chevrolet was founded the same year as the race (1911) and has even had its founders compete. Gaston Chevrolet, one of the three founding brothers, actually won the race in 1920.

Chevrolet has led the race as the pace car more than any other brand and is looking forward to watching the 2014 Corvette Stingray make its mark.
