Buick Celebrates 110th Birthday

Buick Celebrates 11 DecadesThe words of an unknown author, “from humble beginnings come great things”, have never been as true as they are when applied to the Buick car brand.  Beginning in 1903 as a single hand-built car in the barn behind David Dunbar Buick’s Detroit, MI home, the Buick brand has evolved into one of the elite luxury car makers in the world as it celebrates its 110th birthday.

To pay tribute to its storied, 11 decade history, Buick has compiled a list of 11 of the most influential milestones it has experienced.  They begin with the 1904 Model B and bridge into the 1938 Buick Y-Job, which holds the title of the first concept vehicle ever built.

Two years before the Y-Job was unveiled, Buick had its first production vehicle break the 100 mph mark, but that was only the beginning of speed for the automaker.  In 1987, Buick created its quickest car ever.  The 1987 Buick GNX raced from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, but only 457 units were produced; making it one of Buick’s rarest vehicles ever.

Today, Buick has sold more than 43 million vehicles across the globe.  To put that number into context, it is equivalent to every vehicle sold in the U.S. over the past three years.  You can see every event Buick has highlighted for its 110th birthday in the automaker’s press release.
